In the context of increasingly complex and pressing climate change challenges, countries and regions around the world have adopted a wide range of strategies, policies, and legal frameworks to promote the green transition. At the same time, 2024 and 2025 witnessed two significant developments in international climate law, namely the 2024 Advisory Opinion of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) concerning States’ obligations in relation to climate change and the 2025 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning States’ obligations in respect of climate change. These landmark developments have contributed to further clarifying and strengthening the role and responsibilities of States in addressing climate change, while also opening up new areas of inquiry concerning the development and implementation of international climate law.

Against this background, the Faculty of International Law, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law will organise a Seminar on Green Transition of the Vietnamese Economy, providing an academic forum for in-depth discussion and exchange on emerging legal issues arising from the global green transition.

The Seminar will bring together leading experts and scholars in international law and the green transition, including:

- Assoc. Prof. Dr. N. Jansen Calamita – Principal Research Fellow and Head of the Investment Law and Policy Programme, Centre for International Law; Research Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore.
- Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Thao – Member of the United Nations International Law Commission; Lecturer, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pornchai Wisuttisak – Faculty of Law, Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
- Prof. Dr. Arie Afriansyah – Professor, Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia; Editor-in-Chief, Indonesian Journal of International Law.
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Thuy Duong – Dean, Faculty of International Law, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law.

The Seminar will provide an opportunity for in-depth exchange and discussion of emerging and significant issues at the intersection of international law and the green transition. The discussions are expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of current developments in international law, while providing valuable foundations for participants to identify and develop new research directions in the future.

The Faculty of International Law, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law warmly welcomes the participation of colleagues from Vietnam and abroad, as well as students and postgraduate students from law schools and institutions of legal education in Vietnam and internationally.
